McCLAIN’S MEADOWS PARTNERS WITH BRIGADOON SERVICE DOGS!

We are very pleased to announce a new partnership with Brigadoon Service Dogs 501(c)3 in Bellingham, Washington. McClain’s Meadows Veteran Farm donates at least one puppy from each litter to the Brigadoon Service Dog training program; the puppies we donate will specifically go to a disabled Veteran when they complete Brigadoon’s intense 2 year training program.

Please contact us at theveteranfarm@gmail.com if you are a disabled war Veteran interested in a Service Dog. WE CAN HELP YOU CUT THROUGH THE RED TAPE AND WAITING LISTS. Please include a copy of your DD-214, ERB and/or other records of service via e-mail when you contact us.

Meet “RAMBO” – the first puppy donated by McClain’s Meadows to Brigadoon Service Dogs. He is almost done with training! We are so proud of him!

What is the cost? Veterans never pay.

Training a Service Dog takes place from 8 weeks to 2 years maturity! Cost: $30,000

Most people in need cannot afford the cost, so Brigadoon Service Dogs became a 501(c)(3) non-profit in 2004 in order to help bridge the financial gap.

McClain’s Meadows also operates a nonprofit 501(c)3 called “The Veteran Farm” which provides support to fellow Veterans in a variety of ways. The donation of our AKC Registered Labrador Retriever puppies is coordinated through our nonprofit so Veterans will not be burdened the the cost of a Service Dog.

More about the Veteran’s Program at Brigadoon Service Dogs:

Brigadoon is honored to introduce a program for veterans who suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Veterans who are diagnosed with these conditions have a difficult time handling the stress and the memories of the event which affected their ability to perform day to day functions, interact normally with family and friends, and maintain gainful employment.

The name of this program is CHI – Canines and Heroes for Independence.

When teamed with a well-mannered service dog the veteran is able to receive a vitally important “reality affirmation” when the dog is summoned. This a grounding technique. Tactile stimulation can be very calming in stressful situations.  In addition, the dog can be trained to nudge his partner to “snap” the veteran out of a frozen moment caused by anxiety, or wake him up from a nightmare or night terrors by turning on a light.  In public situations, the veteran can give a cue for the dog to stand between himself and other people to reduce his or her anxiety.

Thank you for supporting McClain’s Meadows Veteran Farm and all Veterans!
