** We donate a puppy with service dog aptitude to a Disabled Veteran from every litter **

As Army Combat Veterans ourselves, we work closely with the Disabled Veteran Community to provide free puppies that have an aptitude for service dog work. Every puppy from McClain’s Meadows is scored by an AKC Certified Service Dog Evaluator, which helps us select the right puppies for donation and helps you choose a puppy that’s the right fit for your family. All our puppies come with a Lifetime Health Guaranteed and an Embark Breed+Health Genetics genetic report. We also AKC Register puppies on your behalf, so you will not have any paperwork to file.

McClain’s Meadows is confident offering a LIFETIME HEALTH WARRANTY, assuring our AKC Registered puppies are be unaffected by any of the genetic diseases tested for by Embark Breed+Health. Every Dam and Sire has cleared extensive genetic and health screening as required by AKC and the OFA. Please see our Puppy Contract below for details.

All of our Labs are clear of the dilute gene so our unique coat colors (Red to Light Cream) is the result of careful and responsible breeding. They are AKC registered ONLY as Yellow, Chocolate or Black.

If you cannot travel to pick up your puppy, we can DELIVER them to you! We can also provide basic potty training as well as basic good behavior training (calm protocol and/or AKC S.T.A.R Puppy Good Citizen/Urban Canine Good Citizen training). Please contact us by e-mail for a quote.

McClain’s Meadows is AKC recognized as a “Breeder with Heart.”

OUR MATRON – “SKY” (NEXT LITTER OF PUPPIES AVAILABLE NOV. 2023)

Sky’s Spring 2020 Litter!

Sky comes from a line of show and service dogs. She is a proven Matron with excellent mothering skills and an endearing disposition. Her mother, Bella, was bred by Amy O’Sullivan of Lucky Yellow Labs in cooperation with the famous “Duck Dog” Merganser. While Sky appears white, she is a yellow lab and her coloring is NOT a result of a dilute gene. She is the product of six generations of breeding for a lighter color variation. When you meet her, you will see her yellow coloring most evident in her “coffee dipped ears.”

OUR NEWEST DAM – “MARTINI” (HER FIRST LITTER OF PUPPIES DUE IN DEC. 2023)

Martini is trained as a PTSD therapy dog and provides deep pressure therapy as well as anxiety/panic attack interruption for Disabled Veterans. At 2 years old, she is currently in the health screening process to assure she is appropriate for breeding wonderful pets and healthy working/ service dogs: Genetics (passed/clear, including EIC), Cardiology (passed/clear), hip and elbow joints x-rays (OFA passed/clear), Ophthalmologist (OFA passed/clear). These evaluations assure a long and healthy life as a momma in our breeding program – and that her puppies will join your home as healthy members of your family!

WE STAND BEHIND OUR PUPPIES.

If you can no longer care for your puppy dog, we will always welcome them back to our farm and/or help you find them an appropriate new home. We don’t want any of our puppies to end up in a shelter. We love each and every one of our puppies from the moment it is born until the day they cross the rainbow bridge.

OUR LIFETIME GENETIC DISEASE GUARANTEE

We understand the importance of preventing known genetic diseases in the Labrador Retriever breed and these diseases can be 100% prevented through responsible breeding practices. A NOTE ABOUT HIP DYSPLASIA IN LARGE BREED DOGS

There is more and more research available today and it is showing that there is a significantly higher risk for specific health issues including orthopedic (hip dysplasia, CCL tears & other joint issues), cancer, behavioral problems and other health considerations due to premature spaying or neutering of dogs before physical maturity. We STRONGLY recommend waiting until pups are a minimum of 12 months old and ideally 18-24 months of age before spaying or neutering.

The process of early spaying and neutering removes key hormones that are required for the fusion of growth plates in bones. If these hormones are removed too early and are absent when growth plate fusion normally occurs, bones grow longer than they normally would. This results in changing the angles of the legs and as a result puts the dog at higher risk for CCL tears and other joint issues. Most veterinarians still push for early spaying and neutering around 6 months of age. Please do your own research prior to deciding. Based on our extensive research on the subject, if a puppy has been spayed or neutered prior to 18 months of age the hip guarantee will be null and void.

Research has shown that dysplasia and other joint issues have three main causes: genetics, over feeding (and poor quality food) and too much exercise at a young age (excessive stress on joints). Therefore, McClain’s Meadows does not cover elbow dysplasia or other joint issues if they are due to over-feeding, over-exertion on joints and bones, accidents, injuries, neglect, poor nutrition, etc.

FAQ – Large Breed Puppy and Dog Food Recommendations:

It is important to feed your puppy LARGE BREED Puppy Food during the first year of their life. Once they are a year old, you can switch to LARGE BREED Adult Food or “All Life Stages” Large Breed Dog Food. Why is LARGE BREED Food so important? Because Large Breed Dog Food has the correct Calcium to Phosphorous Ratio proper bone and joint development based on the dogs age!

If you choose to feed your dog GRAIN FREE Food, please be aware of the following information from the FDA regarding potential links between your dog’s diet and heart disease.

Please also consider registering for the Dog Food Advisor website that will notify you of recalls related to dog foods and treats. If you prefer to make homemade dog food, please consult your Veterinarian and purchase mineral packets from Balance It or Farmers Dog (ALS/Large Breed).

Why Breed? In Honor of “VINO”

When I got back from Afghanistan in 2012, I had a very difficult time adjusting. To say the least.

Vino saved my life in so many ways. My husband got him for me as a gift and Paws for a Cause trained him as my service dog. He taught me so many lessons – and helped me with anxiety/PTSD as well as mobility, which I struggled with due to an injury, POTs, CFS and fibromyalgia. I could not imagine living without him. I decided the best way to honor him would be to start breeding his bloodline and partnered with Lucky Yellow Labs (my aunt), who is my mentor with over 30 years of experience breeding. We have worked with other dogs, including rescues, and other breeders and training facilities to find rescue and service dogs for veterans. But there is something truly special about the bloodlines from this service dog/working dog bloodline. We continue to breed to preserve Vino’s memory and the Lucky Yellow Labs legacy. Vino retired from breeding in 2022.

My partner in crime – Vino and I on a road trip in 2016.
Our Sire: VINO (RETIRED July 2022)
AKC Registered as MCCLAIN’S RAMBLIN DRAKE VINO

We are very proud of Vino’s bloodline. His great grandfather, Webshire’s Honest Abe, was inducted into the National Bird Dog Foundation’s Retriever Hall of Fame in 2002 based on his career as a National Field Champion and the sire of 37 Field Champions. Honest Abe’s son, Candlewood’s Ramblin Man was also inducted into the National Bird Dog Retriever Hall of Fame in 2011.
